Hiking in the Todtnau’s Vacationland

The Todtnau’s Vacationland consists of  nine districts among which are Todtnau, Todtnauberg, Herrenschwand and Muggenbrunn. In addition, the Todtnau’s Vacationland is nestling by the Mountains Belchen , Schauinsland and Feldberg. No question, here you will have the perfect chance to hike because of these three mountains nearby. Even the most demanding hikers will find the proper route.

On this point, however, we want also to point out that there are less demanding routes which could be used by those who do not want to make exhausting tours and for families with children, there are special adventure tours in the Todtnau’s Vacationland with special mottos which make hiking entertaining, but also informative.

The Waterfall Steep Path (10, 8 km)

It isn’t for nothing that the Waterfall Steep Path is called the “Premium Hiking Path” since it is the gem of the hiking paths of the region.

Todtnau's Waterfall*

Todtnau’s Waterfall*

This path is 11 kilometers long (however, it can also be 20 kilometers if you choose the circular route version) but it is not suitable for smaller children, unless they will be carried. The path itself is, however, no big deal; but you have to watch out for slippery stones near water courses and shadowy valleys.

The Waterfall Steep Path begins at the Feldberg Pass and connects the Fahler Waterfall and the Todtnau Waterfall. The latter is named the “highest natural waterfall of Germany” and falls down from a height of 97 meters.  At the very beginning of the hiking tour you will pass the spring of the Wiese River; further highlights of the track include the ski-jumping hills in “Fahler Loch” and “Schatzstein”.

The Sensory Path and the Forest Adventure Path Todtnauberg (ca. 3km)

This path was rearranged by the diligent workers of the society “L(i)ebenswertes Todtnauberg” a few days ago and was opened on Sunday, 14 October 2012. From now on the troll “Hornerdadsch” will guide  guests through the path and over the horn. There will be information at different path stations which will tell  guests about the forest, mushrooms, giant trees and the animals of the forest.

The “Zauberweg” (=Enchanted Path) at Hasenhorn in Todtnau (ca. 3, 5 km)

This path goes first from Todtnau up to the Hasenhorn with the chair lift. There, the little hiker will be greeted by the imps Ilex and Farfara who will help them find the magic stone. Additional assistants include the hare king Rubus Henry, the grumpy beech Grieswurz and the mouse Fritzi Piep. The attractions of this path include an imp’s cabin, carved figures and a bat cave. Moreover, you can look all of these adventures up in the brochure of the “Zauberweg”.

The Barefoot Path Muggebrunn (600m)

This path offers you a special kind of natural adventure. Here you can “experience” such things as spruce cones, bark mulch, gravel, mud and water of a mountain steam with the bottoms of your feet.

The Rain Worm Path (2, 5 km)

The start of the Rain Worm Path is near Hohtann between Wieden and Belchen. Here, the giant rain worm Rudi-Regina urgently needs help finding his friend Rolf-Rosemarie. Since he is afraid his friend could be kidnapped, he asks every child to search Rolf-Rosemarie with him. There, the hiker kids will learn all they need to know about rain worms.

More information about these and other tours you will find on the website of the Todnau’s Vacationland.
